One Thousand Plus!
WWII Memorial
Today, there were over 1000 veterans, guardians, members of Honor Flight, the Rotary of New Hampshire…citizens, soldiers, marines, navy, coast guard, etc at the WWII Memorial….and I pass this note on from Judy Lemmons Honor Flight’s unsung hero, flight coordinator and all around good friend and advisor.  Without her, we’d be wandering all around the country lost!  This is the Georgia group, just one of many that came in today and we all got our directions from Judy.  She writes:
“Hi all,

I just wanted to pass along my sincere thanks for your incredible support today at the WWII Memorial with Senator Dole.  I know how very much his heart takes him there to spend so much time in support of the HFN and we recognize that he too is feeling the years, and yet, he is a driven man and we so appreciate having him there to meet our groups.

For many of our “greatest generation”  having one of their own “battle buddies” there to visit with them at their memorial is what legends are made from.  It’s the most humbling and emotional journey I’ve ever taken.  To see them together, just guys and gals from a time long since past, embrace the significance of their service and sacrifice together as one.   Not merely another politician greeting visitors at a memorial. He’s one of them, and it’s that continuing service he gives to so many who served when called upon–putting service before self.

Please pass along to Senator Dole how much we appreciate his taking the time to visit with as many groups as he did today.  They appreciated it and it was indeed, the highlight of their visit.  I think he visited with nearly over 450 veterans plus guardians and support personnel.  There were just three groups he missed due to their late arrivals.

Today was an exceptional day of strength, unity, and working together that brought almost 650 veterans to see their memorial.  We applaud the efforts of Senator Dole and those of you who manage his schedule to be with us as often as possible and for that we are forever indebted to each one of you.

THANK YOU for helping us put a smile on the faces of our heroes as they embrace one another with withering, arthritic hands, but with hearts full of love and humility that have endeared them to a nation.

With each flight we do, the desire to do more increases – are you up for Veterans day 09 with 5,000?  Someone slap me!

Thanks again
Judy Lemmons
