Nebraska’s Cutting Edge

Arlington Police Lead Veterans into World War II Memorial

World War II Memorial

The Arlington Police Department has been a good friend to Honor Flight. They also have some beautiful artwork on their tanks!!!  Their Motor Squad lead both Nebraska flights into the World War II Memorial.  Then, the United States Air Force drill team showed up today to entertain the Nebraska contingent.  Their feats of “derring-do” are very interesting and kept the crowd in a high state of entertainment. They kept me in a state of high anxiety.  The veterans had been given “Jewel of the Mall” the night before the trip so I enjoyed a minor bit of celebrity which I can always use.

Senator Chuck Hagel, the Governor of Nebraska, Dave Heinman, Senator Dole and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry all showed up to greet the two hundred and fifty vets on the flight many of whom were met by relatives who live in the DC area. Bill Williams led the flight which arrived in two parts. The photographs of the day are on the Photo Site.

Honor Flight is featured in Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
