The Season begins–DC Ground Crew Shines

With over 100 volunteers between Dulles, BWI, National Airports and the thirty at the WWII Memorial, DC Ground Crew is staffed up to take some numbers and Honor Flight brought them on.  Over 1000 veterans from ten hubs pouring into the Memorial, DC lived up to its reputation for not only its beauty but its humidity!  Senator and Senator Dole and Senator Sessions were on hand to greet the troops and while I was worried about the Senator last Wednesday, he is “recovered” and stayed for about three hours. Nothing like a guy who can wear a black wool suit in 90 degree heat and not get hot.  Senator Sessions also paid a visit along with General Stenner, a three star general who flew in for the day.

WWII Memorial Kari Beardsley and Lea Puttkamer–new volunteers to the photo ground crew–were on hand and saved the day as there were more ceremonies going on then I could single-handedly keep track of.  Their images will be put up on the photo site later.  Kari and George kerestes will be adding some text for the day.  The photos are available for download by clicking here. It will take you to the photo site.

And on the bus for fourteen more Honor Flights this Summer are the Richards (Bobbi seen here in here Summer pose).  Bobbi just retired so that they can take on the responsibility.  I am sue the bus line is giving her frequent flyer mlles.  Bill credited an industrious board of directors for their ability to get the job done.

WWII MemorialAfter today, it was all about style.  These two new volunteers (Teresa and Kimberly) definitely had the heat licked and displayed some elegant fashion sense as they pushed veterans and handed out sandwiches.  The largest ceremony was Joe Fitzgerald’s Patriot Flight which got the vets out on the Mall with a bagpiper.

Finally, Seth Watkins was back dazzling all with his displays of prowess juggling nine cameras at once and organizing photos.  Obviously Marion’s been bitten by the photo bug and rumor has it that she’s leaving law to become a photojournalist…or was that to go on vacation???  I’ve never been one with the facts. Have a good time!  It was an amazing day and our Ground Crew in DC proved themselves up to the task.
