 HONOR FLIGHT

I have been working this winter to promote the images of the WWII Memorial and the changes it has made to the Mall.  I’ve also been taking pictures and working with veterans groups to document their efforts to fly FOR FREE our remaining WWII veterans to the Mall.  This effort has gone from 5000 to 10000 WWII vets per year.  You can find images of this at the url below. Vets and their families can review the day with their loved ones and download the images for free.

THE BLOG….

Has turned out to be a way to organize my documenting these activities.  As a resident and photojournalist in DC, it’™s been refreshing to watch these groups raise millions of dollars at pancake breakfasts, start a network in twenty-four states, and get the vets here and back with the greatest concern for their comfort and safety.  It’™s a wonderful story and it’™s a pleasure to be documenting it.  I have also been working with the White House News Photographers to publicize their efforts and they will be honored at
the WHNPA Awards Dinner this year. Channel Five, Doug Mills, Duffy Dyer and Heidi and Jon Elswick of
WHNPA and the AP and Ed Eaves of NBC are to be thanked for their support.

I am offering the book to Honor Flight and other veterans groups at significant discount to help them raise money and as a memento to the vets of their trip.  Honor Flight.org is one of the organizations that is currently giving the book to the Veterans they transport to DC.  The National Park Service sells the book but not at the WWII Memorial. Eastern has done terrific display work at the FDR and Arlington Cemetery.
The Order of the Purple Heart has just begun to distribute the books to Vets at VA centers where they work.  It’™s worked out as a beautiful and very reasonably priced gift and continues to sell in the bookstores at the list of $24.95.

EDUCATION

I have built a slideshow, which allows you to view the book online in a large image format.  It’™s flash based and as search engine results get better, schools will begin to adopt the images.

REVIEWS

“National Park Traveler”website reviewer Bob Janiskee gave “Jewel of the Mall” a rave review which you can read at:

President Clinton sent me a nice note about the book and Senator Robert Dole wrote the introduction so we’re in Presidential company.

GOOGLE WATCH:  I have secured the domain names
“œwwiimemorial.net” and “wwiimemorial.us” to increase traffic to the main site where all of the book’™s distributors are mentioned. I have also taken advertising on Google.

WWII Memorial: Jewel of the Mall is a 90 page full-color photographic book on the WWII Memorial with an introduction by Senator Robert Dole and photographs by renowned photographer Stephen R. Brown. The photographs are exclusive never-to-be duplicated images as Stephen R. Brown had access to the site and cranes as the Memorial was built. Panoramic scenes of the new face of the Mall comprise seventy-five pages of the book while the other fifteen are a documentary of the creation and installation of the sculpture and Marble ornamentation that is part of this new memorial.

Finally, I now take credit cards and invoice electronically.
