Sixteen Pipers Piping at World War II Memorial

In a novel twist, this Saturday’s flights from Poplar Bluff, Mo, Louisana, Asheville and Columbus were met by not just one bagpiper but sixteen pipers who played around the World War II Memorial for several hours. Imagine the sound of sixteen pipers piping. Great stuff!! Joe Polhemus of the Columbus flight was surrounded with pipers.

On the home front, Susan Barr’s son Hunter took over for her with the Columbus, Ohio flight and is pictured here with mom and Senator Dole. Quite a responsibility for a seventeen year old guy. He got everyone around the Mall, back on the buses and planes and home safely.

Senator Dole stands with the crowds of people behind him in contrast to a photograph I made four years ago when the World War II Memorial was empty. It’s nice to see that it has become the most popular attraction on the Mall.

Active duty troops are frequently seen visiting the Memorial and greeting vets. Louisiana Congressman Charles Boustany is on his fourth trip with Veterans from his state. He deserves your support and your vote. He’s taking care of his own Louiisnacongdscn2652.

All of these photographs and more can be found at the photo site.

Veterans Groups are featured in Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
