Historical Footage: Japanese Surrender
Signing Aboard Battleship Missouri Sunday Sept. 2, 1945.
From Rick Sage in Michigan, I got the following information:
“This is an actual film made of the surrender ceremony of the Japanese to McArthur in Tokyo Bay in September 1945. You can hear the actual voice of the General. Never been shown to the general
public before. We always saw the “stills” but never the film itself.
If you are a history buff you will enjoy it. In the end, McArthur asked God to preserve peace for eternity. “
MacArthur’s word’s are carved into the WWII Memorial: “TODAY THE GUNS ARE SILENT. A GREAT TRAGEDY HAS ENDED. A GREAT VICTORY HAS BEEN WON. THE SKIES NO LONGER RAIN DEATH…THE SEAS BEAR ONLY COMMERCE…MEN EVERYWHERE WALK UPRIGHT IN THE SUNLIGHT. THE ENTIRE WORLD IS QUIETLY AT PEACE.” -General Douglas MacArthur.
