LONG OVERDUE!!!…., there will be ceremonies at the Air Force Memorial this Tuesday and on Wednesday, the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor will be presented to WASPS (Women Aviators) who were never given credit for their role in delivering and testing aircraft during WWII. I had the honor to meet and photograph Brigadier General Pat Foote (left) and Toby Felker. Pat Foote was on the selection site for the WWII Memorial and women like Toby inspired her.
Toby passed away last year but had the opportunity to speak of her experiences as a member of the Women’s Air Service Pilots at the Women in Military History Museum at Arlington Cemetery. She was very small and her stories about flying a large bomber around the country were quite amusing. This photograph of Pat and Tobey has always been my favorite in the Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
