As I mentioned earlier, Senator Dole joined the veterans as Earl Morse was giving them the tour of the bas reliefs which greet the visitor from the front entrance to the World War II Memorial. The twenty four bas reliefs contain 255 figures and their construction is what lead me to initially begin this project. I am always amazed that these 2×5 foot pieces are often overlooked but then again the Memorial is so vast (eight acres) that it’s difficult to take it all in in one day. I have just become a “friend” of the Washington, DC Guild of Tour Guides and am scheduled to give a photographic presentation at the Building Museum in August. It should be fun.
