Each column has a wreath of oak and wheat bronze and to keep the view clear across the Mall are only seventeen feet hight. The columns are placed and named in order of their entry into the union and jump from South to North sides of the World War II Memorial. Delaware was the first state to enter the Union and so is the first column on the South side. Pennsylvania was the second and is the first column on the North.
