Birmingham, AL On Wednesday, November 5 Honor Flight Birmingham took to the skies for the final flight in 2008. This was the fifth flight of 2008 for the Birmingham program started by Pam Nichols and Amy McDonald. The group included 34 veterans, two-thirdsof which were Navy veterans. They were warmly greeted to cheers and tears at Baltimore International Airport and spent about two hours exploring the World War II Memorial. Others at the memorial including visitors from China and school children from North Carolina waited for an opportunity to have photos taken with the veterans who for them represent living history. Birmingham’s hub serves veterans primarily from the central Alabama region. Birmingham’s lights will resume in the spring.
Birmingham got a wonderful write-up in the Birmingham Magazine recently which is well-worth the read. It’s nice to see our volunteers’ efforts being recognized.
Honor Flight is featured in Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
