Don Dragoo, a ninety-one year old veteran passed away on the return flight. I have mixed emotions but like to think that he had an interesting day and hope his family is in some way consoled by the fact that he had a good time. His daughter was at his side. I believe this is the first time this has happened and while inevitable, only points out the urgency we must apply to the Honor Flight program.
In the Omaha World Herald, Bill Williams was quoted as saying: “I have heard numerous times from World War II veterans that if it’s my time, there is no better place than an honor flight,” … “He got to do the things everybody else got to do. But on the way home, it was his time to go.”Dragoo served in the Army in England, France, Belgium, Italy and Germany during World War II.
