Lona Ichikawa (Honor Flight’s DC Ground Crew Chief and Judy Wybenga, Dulles Ground crew Chief held an end of season fund raising for the DC Ground Crew at American Legion Post 180 in Vienna, Virginia this weekend and also took the opportunity to recognize some of their volunteers. I will post the pictures later in the day. One of the really spectacular parts of the day was the unveiling of a Woodcut print done by Pat Sargent and Erwin Thamm of The George Mason University Printmakers Guild made this Woodcut print to honor. If you are interested in obtaining a copy, contact Erwin Thamm of the George Mason University Printmakers Guild.
I signed some donated books and they raised almost $800.00 in the inaugural fundraising effort. It was a nice opportunity to talk with some of the people I see working so hard to greet the Veterans and make them comfortable. Six thousand veterans went through Dulles this season and I6000 overall. I am looking forward to getting together with the National and BWI Groups in similar efforts. The DC ground crew is a story in itself and I am going to try to find out a bit more and take some snaps. There are apparently several thousand volunteers on the roster. You can view and download the pictures at the Dulles folder on the WWII Memorial site.
