Michigan: Pride and Honor Flight at World War II Memorial

World War II Memorial

It was a beautiful daydown at the World War II Memorial and Faye Wisely of Pride and Honor Flight MIchigan” was already on scene with 85 vets and 25 guardians. Faye was the first person I sent a book to last year and my initial contact with Honor Flight. I believe this is her second flight this year and she has another planned for September which is going to be a busy month.

I had an interesting conversation with Ed White of Michigan who was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1943/44. He said: “I’m kind of a professional skeptic. I’m not a combat veteran and essentially opposed to conflict but I have been moved to “almost” tears by the attention, the cheering at the airports and the affection shown us today….”. So Ed… we think you’re a hero because you were there and ready and we’re glad you’re here today. Ed’s a sculptor himself so found the bas reliefs particularly interesting. If you haven’t checked them out, they are worth some hours of viewing as there are a total of 255 figures on the reliefs.

Ground Crew Coordinator Diane Sinclair is getting more help and was joined by Cindy Becker, karen Stiansen, Russell and Patti Whitten. Welcome to Honor Flight.

Honor Flight is featured in Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
