WWII veterans were at the WWII Memorial today not only from Honor Flight but from from groups ranging from a Pennsylvania bus group, a DC veteran with his family, to veterans who were POWs in a Polish prison during the war and forced to march 300 miles in mid-Winter. Honor Flight Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina were on hand and Lona and her volunteers catered the tents.
L-3 Corporation brought out their employees to greet the veterans and soldiers from Ft. Meade were all over the WWII Memorial saluting, shaking hands, forming parades. There was even a bagpiper-a festive note on this sunny day. Here’s a sampling of images which are duplicated in full size on the PHOTO SITE. The weather was absolutely spectacular and the tourists and veterans mingled as one family. It was a lovely day and the Memorial becomes a part of the American scene more and more everyday.
Honor Flight and Veterans Groups are featured in Jewel of the Mall: World War II Memorial book.
