(Ashland, NE) The Strategic Air and Space Museum (SASM) will welcome World War II veterans featured in Band of Brothers for a book signing and presentation on Saturday, Dec. 5. A book signing will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the presentation at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will sell for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. This event is open to the media.
There will be a social hour and dinner at the Museum Friday evening, December 4, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets will sell for $100 for this exclusive opportunity to sit with the veterans of Easy Company.
“This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the amazing achievements of these World War II veterans,” said Evonne Williams, interim executive director of SASM. “If you have read the book or seen the miniseries, you have an idea of what extraordinary experiences these men lived through. It is an honor to welcome them to Nebraska, as we honor the servicemen and women who have and continue to serve our country.”
The stories of these veterans have been chronicled in Stephen E. Ambrose’s bestselling, non-fiction book and a HBO 10-part miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks about an incredible World War II U.S. Army airborne unit known as Easy Company.
The veterans will share their remarkable stories as part of Easy Company, a volunteer rifle company, which parachuted into France early on D-Day morning 1944; spearheaded the Market-Garden and Rhine offensives; engaged the Nazis in Bastogne and the Bulge; and captured Hitler’s “impenetrable” Eagle’s Nest at Berchtesgaden in 1945. The following men will be sharing their stories: Buck Compton, Don Malarkey, Babe Heffron, Ed Mauser, Earl “One Lung” McCLung, and Ed Tipper.
