Korea at Night
Korea at Night

The Korean Memorial has been an interesting project as well. Surrounded by the Lincoln and the WWII Memorial, it’s smaller even than the Vietnam Memorial. I’ve found it the most difficult of the Memorials to photograph so far but then, I haven’t tried it just before dawn…usually a solution for any photograph.

Grand View
Grand View

The great part of my book projects is sprucing up my files.  A photo similar to this taken thirty years ago is in the current edition of the DC PHOTO BOOK but wasn’t capable of being taken to a larger size in the new revision of the book because of dust and age so…..  I’ve been […]

Pentagon Memorial
Pentagon Memorial

I have seen sketches of the new Pentagon Memorial and was not expecting the elegance and sophistication of the design.  It is truly a subtle solution for this little trafficked Memorial. We are adding photos to the DC PHOTO BOOK due out in the Fall and this will be a stunning addition. Visit before it’s […]

Michigan Honor Flight
Michigan Honor Flight

Faye Wisely was the first person I ever contacted about Honor Flight. No one was quite sure of how to go about accomplishing the task of moving all those vets. She pointed me to Earl Morse who was still working it out with Jeff Miller over the dinner table.

Memorial Day 2012
Memorial Day 2012

While visiting the WWII Memorial,  a veteran from North West Ohio Honor Flight contemplates FDR’s words on Pearl Harbor.  It is interesting that the religious right insists that Washingtonians omitted any reference to the creator as if we have nothing to do but remove text when in fact, the quote was at the end of […]

Honor Flights

Chicago, Arizona, Columbia and Myrtle Beach, SC and North West Ohio Honor Flights were in town today as was Jim McLaughlin, President of Honor Flight and Susan Barr traveling with Arizona.   The predicted stormy weather held off all day and other than a bit of humidity, my trip to the Memorial was absolute karma– […]

Kaskey Studio Site
Kaskey Studio Site

Sculptor Ray Kaskey who sculpted the the WWII Memorial elements just completed assignments for the “International Brotherhood of Teamsters” and the “International Union of Operating Engineers.”  I added twelve pages to the site and updated the “Commissions” page. I designed the site two years ago in Dreamweaver and still think it’s an elegant piece of code.

Potomac View

Scouting an architectural project along the Potomac, I realized I have only been on the River once before in my three decades in DC!  I jumped on the Riverfront Cruse which was just arriving and it turned out to be the last ride of the season!   As I got on, I recognized Captain Bob […]

Chicago, Arizona, New Mexico Honor Flights stay dry!

We had some bad weather forecast today in DC and while it was gray, the rains held off while Arizona, New Mexico and Chicago were at the Memorial.  Jim McLoughlin and Susan Barr are in town for a few days supervising the variety of flights that are arriving. Honor Flight is a phenomena…and phenomenally successful. […]

After a scorching summer and a week of torrential rain, it was a pleasure to slip by the WWII Memorial this morning. As I strolled towards the Pacific entrance, I ran into Jim McLoughlin, President of Honor Flight.  He’s on a trip every three weeks in addition to supervising Honor Flight’s all over the country. Honor Flight Chicago
Honor Flight Chicago

Honor Flight Chicago visited the WWII Memorial in the blistering heat. Wisely staying on the buses when possible, they managed to put together a moving ceremony at the WWII Memorial.  Working with Honor Flight Chicago’s 800 volunteer army, this print will be waiting for the veterans when they arrive at the airport this evening.  Every […]

This image was taken about a month ago. As I was wondering along the Tidal Basin on the way to the WWII Memorial, MLK was exposed!   It looks to be a beautiful memorial and I am looking forward to photographing it more thoroughly when it opens this August 28th.
