Faye Wisely

One of Honor Flight’s great leaders Faye Wisely passed away this week of cancer.  She was wonderful and the first person I contacted about Honor Flight.  At the time, Honor Flight as an organization was  more a concept than a reality. She recommended I call Earl Morse.  Eight years and two thousand veterans later, she had accomplished her goal of bringing all the WWII Veterans in her area to the WWII Memorial.  We had some pretty frank conversations about her condition and she was brave and positive throughout. She made a couple of flights when she couldn’t have been feeling great.  Anyway, this image is in “WWII Memorial: Jewel of the Mall” and I’m delighted to have been her friend.  Ann Arbor.com,  Michigan’s newspaper online has more information.

***A celebration of Faye Wisely’s life is planned at the Red Brick restaurant, 8093 Main St. in Dexter, from noon- 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made out to Honor Flight, Inc. Attn: Diane Gresse, 175 South Tuttle Road. Springfield, OH 45505.
